4-ply worsted weight cotton crochet thread - E hook
Chain 3, loosely, and join with a slip stitch to form a circle.
Work 5 sc in the circle. Join with a slip stitch
*sc dc trc chain trc dc sc* in top loop of each of the 5 sc sts
After completing the fifth point, slst to the 1st sc in the 1st point. Tie off.
Hang with a length of yarn.
Arlene's Easter Tree Basket - Crochet

Size - approx. 2-1/2 inches wide
4-ply worsted weight cotton crochet thread - E hook
Base of basket:
Ch 4. Join with slst to 1st chain made to form ring.
Row 1 - Ch 3. Make 7 dc in ring. Join with slst to the top of first ch 3. (There are 8 spaces in row 1)
Row 2 - Sl st to 1st space. Ch 5, dc in same space *Dc, ch 2, dc* in each of 7 remaining spaces. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of first ch 5.
Side of basket:
Row 3 - Sl st to 1st ch 2 sp. Ch 4. Dc in same sp. *Dc, ch 1, dc.* in each of 7 remaining ch 2 sp. Join
with sl st to 3rd ch of first ch 4.
Row 4 - Sl st to 1st ch 1 sp. Ch 3, dc, ch 2, dc 2 in same sp. Ch 2. *Skip a ch 1 sp, dc 2, ch 2, dc 2,
ch 2* in the next ch 1 space 3 times. Join with sl st to top of 1st ch 3. There are a total of 4 "shells" in Row 4).
Row 5 - Sl st to 1st space. Ch 3, dc, ch 2, dc 2 in same space. Ch 2.
*Dc 2, ch 2, dc 2, ch 2* in the top ch 2 of the next 3 "shells". Join with sl st to top of 1st ch 3.
Handle:
Cut 6 18" lengths of thread. Place together, and tie an overhand knot 2 inches from the end. Braid.
Tie an overhand knot so that the handle is 6-1/2 inches from knot to knot. Trim ends to 1-1/2 inches.
Finishing:
Stiffen the basket and handle according to the directions on the bottle of stiffener.
When dry, tie the handle to the sides of the basket with additional crochet thread.

Rows 5, 6, and 7 - sc across the row (12 st) ch 1, turn

With right sides together, starting at the top, whip stitch the edges together, matching rows,
and leaving a small opening for turning. Turn inside out, stuff with fiberfill, and finish sewing together. Leave a 2-inch hanging loop at the top.
